National infrastructure projects in England
The biggest schemes in the country are decided by the government, not your council: solar and wind farms, reservoirs, roads, railways, power lines and pipelines. Here is every one in play, with its stage and site boundary.
141 projects in play, including 73 at pre-application.

How national projects are decided
Projects above certain sizes, such as a solar farm over 100 megawatts, a reservoir holding over 30 million cubic metres or a new motorway, are "nationally significant". The promoter consults locally, then applies for a development consent order. An independent panel examines the application and recommends a decision, and the Secretary of State decides. Councils are consulted but do not decide.
"In play" means at pre-application, in the formal process, or decided in the last three years.
