Who runs Planning Signal

Alexis Pratsides founded Planning Signal in 2025 after finding that the only way to follow what was being built in an area was to check council websites one at a time. Since then the planning registers of more than 400 UK councils have been mapped by hand, across 22 different portal systems, and the pipeline that reads them every night was built in the same way. That work is why the site can show an application the day it lands rather than weeks later, and why it notices when a council quietly changes platform and stops publishing.

Where our data comes from

Planning Signal reads planning registers directly from the councils that publish them. More than 400 UK authorities are covered across 22 portal systems, refreshed every night, and every application on the site links back to the council's own record so you can check the source yourself. Where a council publishes its decision notices, we read the conditions out of the notice itself rather than summarising them. Coverage is measured and published on the homepage, including how many councils delivered data this month, because a coverage figure nobody checks is not worth much.
