What you get, free

One summary a day of new applications in the places you follow, and nothing on days when there is nothing new.
Unlimited places
Follow your street's postcode, your town, the next village and your whole council. Every place alert is free.
Postcodes, towns or councils
A postcode or town alert covers 1km around it. A council alert covers everything that council publishes.
Straight to the detail
Each application links to its page with the description, status and a link to the council's own page and documents.
Watch one application
Follow a single application and hear when its status or decision changes.
Easy to stop
Pause or remove any alert from the link in every email.
Who uses free alerts
Neighbours and homeowners
Know when work is proposed next door or down the road, while there is still time to comment.
Community groups
Keep an eye on a whole town or council area and share what comes in with members.
Anyone thinking of objecting
Hear about an application early, read the documents and send your comments to the council in time.
A parish or town council? See the community rate for parish councils, though many find the free alerts are enough.
How it works
Choose a place
Type a postcode, town or council in the box above and pick it from the list.
Enter your email
Select Get alerts and give us your email address. No password.
Confirm
Open the email we send and confirm. Your alerts start then, not before.
Get your daily email
When new applications are published in your places, you get one email that day.
When an alert arrives
Open the application to read what is proposed and when it was received. The council's own page has the plans and documents, and is where comments are made.
Councils usually allow at least 21 days for comments after they publicise an application, but dates vary and the council's page shows the one that applies. Comments made on planning grounds, such as overlooking, traffic or the character of the area, carry the most weight.
To put your view in writing, use our free objection letter builder. To look around your area first, browse councils.

Common questions
How do I find planning applications near me?
Type your postcode, town or council into the box at the top of this page and choose Get alerts. You will get an email whenever new planning applications are published in your area. To look at recent applications straight away, search your postcode from the Search page.
Is it really free?
Yes. Alerts for a postcode area, a town or a council are free on every plan, with no card and no trial that runs out. Paid plans add other things, such as keyword alerts and filters, but place alerts stay free.
Do I need an account or a password?
No password. Enter your email address and we send you a link. Confirming it switches your alerts on and creates a free account for that address, which you sign in to with emailed links. You can add a password later if you want one.
How often are alerts sent?
Once a day, and only when there is something new in the places you follow. You can switch to a weekly email from your account.
How many places can I follow?
As many as you need: postcodes, towns and whole councils. Each one is free.
How close to my home does a postcode alert cover?
A postcode or town alert covers new applications within 1km of it. A council alert covers every new application that council publishes.
Can I get alerts for a whole council?
Yes. Type the council's name and pick it from the list. You will hear about every new application it publishes.
Which parts of the UK do you cover?
We cover councils in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The figures on this page show how many councils sent us new applications in the last 30 days, measured live.
How do I stop alerts?
Every alert email has a link to pause or remove it. You can also manage all your alerts from My searches when you are signed in.
How do I comment on or object to an application?
Comments go to the council, not to us. Each alert links to the application, where you will find the council's own page for comments. Our free objection letter builder helps you write one on planning grounds.
