About South Gloucestershire Council Planning Authority

South Gloucestershire Council serves as the local authority for South Gloucestershire, a district located north of Bristol in Gloucestershire, England. As a unitary authority, it operates both district and county council functions independently of Gloucestershire County Council. Since 2017, the council has been a member of the West of England Combined Authority, playing a key role in regional governance and planning initiatives. The council was established in 1 April 1996. The council is currently led by Maggie Tyrrell (Liberal Democrat), who has held the position since 17 July 2024. Dave Perry serves as Chief Executive since 12 December 2018. The council comprises 61 councillors, with the most recent election held on 4 May 2023.
