Coventry City Council serves as the local authority for Coventry in the West Midlands, England, with a governance history dating back to medieval times. Since becoming a metropolitan borough council in 1974, it has been responsible for delivering essential local government services. In 2016, the council joined the West Midlands Combined Authority, enhancing regional collaboration and development opportunities. The council is currently led by George Duggins (Labour), who has held the position since 19 May 2016. Julie Nugent serves as Chief Executive since 2023.
