T1, Oak : crown clean, remove, back to the collar, the growth going towards the power lines; remove, back to the collar, the lower 5 limbs extending towards the east, approximately 100-120mm diameter cuts, poor growth/ epicormic growth on these branches to go too so a branch removal would suit the trees natural defence better
Beech - 10% overall crown reduction, retaining existing overall shape and balance throughout by removal of branch lengths of 1.8-2m; maximum diameter cuts, 38mm. Crown lift at roadside base by 1.2-1.5m resulting in 4m clearance from ground level. Crown lift by 1.2 m. over garden and remove several existing cut stubs over garden to good healing points.
Walnut : remove a maximum of 20% of the canopy on an ongoing, annual rolling basis; i.e. prune little and often to reduce the risk of bleeding. Remove dead/damaged/diseased branches. Remove any water sprouts at the base of the tree. Remove any crossing branches rubbing together and causing entry points for disease. Remove upright vigorous shoots in the centre of the tree to improve light and air circulation through the canopy. Remove downward growing branches low on the tree to a more upward growing branch, to improve light and remove danger of injury to persons in the garden. Shorten previous year's growth on each main branch by 1/4 to 1/3 to encourage branching and formulation of fruiting spurs. Reduce excess height by shortening larger branches by up to 1/3 to make it less difficult to pick fruit and because the tree is outgrowing available space.
