Why it was refused

  1. The proposed development would result in the loss of a commercial building which has the potential to contribute positively towards the rural economy. Insufficient justification and evidence has been provided to show that alternative uses have been explored or that commercial uses would be unviable, and in particular no evidence has been provided to demonstrate a marketing exercise was carried out. Therefore it cannot be concluded that the building is redundant or disused. The proposal is therefore contrary to Policies ED2 and ED5 of the Tunbridge Wells Local Plan 2026, Policy B2 of the Goudhurst NDP and the aims and objectives of policy E2 and Chapter 7 of the National Planning Policy Framework 2026.
