I have an oak tree in my garden which has died. I think it died last summer during the heat wave. My wife received an email from the Woodland Trust saying trees were dying due to lack of water and upon checking my tree it did not look very well. I left the tree to see if it would show signs on life in the spring but it has not so must be dead. The tree was planted by the previous owner and is about 4 years old. I have a replacement tree and was going to plant it but then thought I should inform the council and discovered I needed to submit an application. The tree is going in exactly the same position. I have attached a photo of the dead tree.
