Bay Laurel (Laurus Nobilis) BL1, 2 & 3 Three Bay Laurels are self-sown in the garden, but, because of the original extensive overgrown canopy of Cherry Laurels, Yew and Sycamore trees, they have developed elongated trunks with a top-heavy canopy. The intention would be to remove one (BL1) entirely, which now obstructs access on one of the original terraced walkways and reduce the height of the other two (BL2 & BL3) substantially, pollarding in terms of the definition in the Torbay Council "Tree and Woodland Framework for Torbay" (Jan 2020) page 18: "cutting a tree so as to encourage formation of numerous branches arising from the same height on a main stem or principle (sic) branches" By removing BL1 and reducing BL2 to a manageable large shrub of 3m. as a retained feature in the emergent garden it will allow space for the Holm Oak (T3) (less than a metre away) and Yew Tree (T6) (AT/2020/0085) to access more light and develop their canopies. By reducing BL3 to a 2m. size shrub, it will allow more light into the emergent produce area and create a specimen feature in the corner of the plot.
