Lawson Cypress pine (W1) - Fell because east side of canopy no longer has growth and therefore is unbalanced. It has low amenity value and is affecting the adjacent trees, namely a magnolia and a plum and pear tree. The trunk is also a forked trunk which may affect the structural integrity of the tree. 3 No neighbours have also requested that the tree is felled as it has negative effects on their property in terms of light and worry of the tree becoming unstable in high winds. The height of the tree is approximately 50 feet. There are several roots exposed on the surface of the surrounding ground that could again affect the longevity of the tree. Our proposal is to plant a native Torquay palm tree (10 to 12 feet in height) within 10m of the current location that would not be as intrusive to 2 neighbours and also be lower in height when fully grown, for the other neighbour. In the immediate vicinity of the current tree we would propose to plant a cherry tree (5 feet) and a Japanese maple (5 feet) as these would have greater amenity value. These replacement trees would be planted in the period post felling and prior to the 2021 nesting season. We have been encouraging more wildlife into the garden since buying the house in September 2019 as it is somewhat sterile from a fauna perspective. By introducing several feeding stations we hope to encourage the wildlife corridor between Chapel Hill Woods and the trees on Barton Road. Hopefully with the introduction of the other trees we will encourage more birds into the area too. The area-TPO classification does not confer protection to any specific trees but as the Order which was made in 1966 is an area classification and therefore gives general protection to trees that existed at the time of the making of the order.
