T1 Willow Mature Willow growing at the rear of the Griffin public house, 124 Wilmslow Road, Heald Green SK8 3BE. The tree is well balanced and in good overall condition apart from a small amount of dead wood within the crown. There is a snapped branch in the lower to mid canopy on the West side resting on a dead branch, both need removing. The lowest limb on the tree extends to the South along the grass strip at the side of the car park and has a great deal of end weight with little opportunity for pruning back to BS3998. It was observed in windy weather to have significant movement, which is of course not a bad thing but there is a potential for failure. This tree would benefit from removal of this branch. All dead wood within the crown should be removed. The canopy over the car parking area hangs low even when not in leaf and this would be a greater problem in leaf as cars could possibly hit the lower branches and cause damage to the tree. I recommend lifting the canopy of the tree to 5.5 metres above ground level removing secondary laterals and creating wounds no greater than 50mm. Clean old ripped stubs. TPO 373W.
