Milton Keynes City Council serves as the local authority for the City of Milton Keynes, located in Buckinghamshire, England. Established in 1974 as Milton Keynes Borough Council, it became a unitary authority in 1997, combining the roles of both district and county councils. This means it operates independently from Buckinghamshire Council, which oversees the remainder of the county, making it a key player in local planning applications and development initiatives. The council was established in 1 April 1974. The council is currently led by Peter Marland (Labour), who has held the position since 11 June 2014. Michael Bracey serves as Chief Executive since 26 October 2018. The council comprises 57 councillors, with the most recent election held on 2 May 2024.
