Halton Borough Council serves as the local authority for Halton, a borough in Cheshire, England. Established as a unitary authority in 1998, it combines the roles of both district and county councils. Since 2014, Halton Borough Council has been part of the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, which may influence planning applications and regional development initiatives in the area. The council was established in 1 April 1974. The council is currently led by Mike Wharton (Labour), who has held the position since 21 May 2021. Stephen Young serves as Chief Executive since 1 April 2022.
