The Council wants to bring these trees back into maintenance and some years ago it agreed a policy of coppicing these willows every 5 years. The Council wants to preserve the amenity value of the trees by ensuring their survival with careful management. At the first coppice, it would remove broken limbs and reduce the number of limbs to 5. It would then shorten these by half to encourage regeneration.
