Request for Approval to Replace Black Pine Trees (Pinus nigra) Following the Tree Assessment Report conducted by Nicholsons and dated 4th April 2025, we are seeking approval to fell and replace all ten Black Pine (Pinus nigra) trees located in our garden. A copy of the full report, including detailed assessments and tree locations, is attached for reference. Summary of Tree Assessment Findings According to the report summary: - A total of 10 trees were assessed. - 7 trees have been identified as posing an Unacceptable risk or tolerable (by agreement) risk. - 1 tree was assessed as posing a tolerable risk (if ALARP). - 2 trees were considered to pose a broadly acceptable risk. While the report specifically recommends the removal of seven trees, we are requesting permission to fell all ten trees. This request is based on the structural interdependence of the trees, particularly the potential consequences of mass damping loss. These trees have developed in close proximity, offering each other mutual protection from high winds and severe weather conditions. As noted in Paragraphs 4.15 to 4.17 of the Nicholsons report?particularly Paragraph 4.17: ?Should the surrounding trees fail or be removed for safety concerns, it would be recommended that all the other Pines be removed due to the exponential foreseeable change in the probability of failure due to the lack of supporting wood at the base.? Replanting and Biodiversity Measures Over time, we have proactively planted a range of replacement trees in anticipation of the potential removal of the Black Pines. These include: - Two native Chestnut trees - Two native Beech trees - Additional species such as Maple, Acer, Cherry, Olive, Spruce, Silver Birch, as well as Apple and Pear trees. These trees are at various stages of maturity. We also propose to plant further native trees to replace the Black Pines to maintain biodiversity and the visual amenity of the area.
