Beech - fell because of danger to residents and buildings due to ganoderma present at base of tree for over 2 years. We are most concerned about the danger of having such a large tree in our garden that is towards the end of it's life. If it fell it could cause significant damage to any of 6 houses in the vicinity and potential loss of life. We have had at least two cases of fallen trees in Grovewood Close in the last two years which has heightened our concern. We have already sent a photo of the fungi to TRDC and Terence Flynn identified the growth as Ganoderma (email dated 20/06/17). We have also consulted a local tree surgeon, Steve Sackett from Urban Tree Solutions and he concurred with this diagnosis.We also believe, that although this is without doubt our favourite tree, it has a low amenity value as it surrounded by so many other trees and the smaller trees have no room for growth. In particular, there are trees close by that are suffering as a result of lack of space. We are happy to replant a tree, most likely a Japanese Acer near to the site of this beech but we are also keen to allow the trees we already have their own space to grow.
