T1 Ash. Mr and Mrs Davies wish to explore whether it would be feasible from a tree perspective, to use the area where the tree may be rooting (ie the area shown on the plan attached at Appendix 1 labelled as Root Protection Area) for a new garage (subject to Planning Permission). Mr J Smith - SODC Tree Officer has previously intimated that this area will comprise of root activity from the Ash tree. We wish to carry out root investigation work to determine the level of root activity along the line of what would be the closest foundation edge should a building be positioned here. The accompanying Arboricultural Method Statement outlines how the root investigation work will be carried out without causing harm to any roots found. Further clarification of root activity may be sought using laboratory analysis of any roots found so that evidence of whether the Ash tree is rooting here can be proved either way.
