T1. Walnut (Juglans regia): Implement a combined crown thinning* and reduction operation i.e. reduce height and lateral radial spread (to east and westerly aspects only) by approx. 1.0m to reshape and balance. Thin remaining outer canopy by 10%. To include the removal of the large dead branch identified in para 3.2.2 above and any other minor deadwood throughout the canopy. Also remove any stubs from previous poor pruning cuts and head back secondary growth as necessary to give 0.5m clearance of the overhead cable that runs through the canopy. The operations should include a climbing inspection, paying particular attention to wounds and main unions and include the reporting any defects. Using hand tools or an airspade*, carefully remove the top 75-100mm of gravel/ground to a radius of 0.5m around the tree stem and record the findings using photographic evidence. 5.2. T2. Walnut (Juglans regia): Implement a combined crown thinning and reduction operation i.e. reduce height and lateral radial spread by approx. 1.5 - 2.0m and thin remaining outer canopy by 15% to reduce weight and sail whilst maintaining a balanced overall crown of good form. To include the removal of the large dead stub identified in para 3.2.5. Supply and fit 2 x non invasive cable braces within the upper third of the tree canopy to provide additional support between the tree stems and prevent excessive flexing of the easterly leaning stems. This is a recognised arboricultural practice used to assist the trees natural support mechanisms. It is recommended that the type and position of the cables be agreed with the CwT consultant prior to installation. The operations should include a climbing inspection, paying particular attention to cavities and main unions and include the reporting any defects. Using hand tools or an airspade*, carefully remove the top 75-100mm of ground to a radius of 0.5m (or to the boundary fence line) around the tree stem and record the findings using photographic evidence.
