Felling of an ornamental cherry tree. The tree is of low amenity value and in poor condition. It has clearly had branches removed over the years and it has a number of dead and overlapping branches. It's growth is irregular with more growth on some parts and dead and diseased branches on others. It is situated widthways in the centre of the garden about two thirds down the length of the garden. It is in an area where we wish to grow vegetables and soft fruit. We also want to plant an eating apple; a cooking apple; a plum tree and possibly a greengage along the boundary fences of the garden, to be trained as fans. It will be difficult to do this if the cherry tree remains because of lack of space. In the garden of 'Brendon' which adjoins the property, there are a number of fruit trees and planting of such trees will increase the diversity of wildlife in the garden. It is also our intention to plant a tree nearer the house but until we have completed laying out the garden, we do not know the type of tree that will be most appropriate. It will though be a tree that is appropriate for the environmental conditions and that will enhance the habitat of the garden for wildlife.
