Reasons for the work: (1) The beech tree has outgrown the space available for it, growing substantially into three nearby trees (an oak tree, a walnut tree and a cherry tree), preventing all from growing freely. We have considered the alternative of only removing a few branches, but this would not be adequate. (2) The oak tree has some long branches nearly touching the ground which are potential safety hazards for any garden work nearby and we would like to raise the crown by removing these at the trunk to provide space underneath it.
