Amended work specification: The work planned would reduce the canopy encroachment back towards secondary growth points closest to the curb line, but not beyond the curb line which would maintain leaf cover on my side of the tree and not create stub cut. Reasons: Pigeon Droppings; Pigeon droppings pose significant health risks, primarily from inhaling airborne fungal spores or bacteria when dried droppings are disturbed leading to respiratory issues like psittacosis ( flu like bacterial infection) and cryptococcosis ( a fungal infection potentially causing meningitis or lung issues especially in vulnerable people), plus bacterial infections like salmonella (bacterial infection causing diarrhea, fever and stomach cramps) Whilst it might be said that the risks are low, nevertheless there is a health risk. Slip Hazards; The pigeon droppings on my drive also cause a significant slip hazard, wet droppings create a slick film, similar to ice, making surfaces dangerously slick and potentially a major hazard to my wife and myself and pedestrian visitors. Potential Damage; There is also potential damage to my drive, the high acidity of the droppings corrodes stonework causing potential costly damage. Removing the droppings is a major exercise, when it hardens it can only be removed by scraping, again potentially damaging my new drive. Hygiene; The droppings are continually picked up on our shoes (and the dogs paws) and dragged into the house to soil the flooring and carpets
