REAR: TWO dead Plum (T1-T2) FELL. Reason: the trees have died, health & safety. Proposed replacement with native fruit trees. (Duty to replace applies). REAR: ONE Damson (T3) FELL. Reason: self seeded on boundary causing issues for fence and nearby structures. Proposed replacement with Acer palmatum. REAR: ONE Leylandii (T4) REDUCE HEIGHT by 3m from 9m to 6m to previous prune points with crown lift. Reason: reduction to shape canopy and improve light conditions. REAR: ELEVEN Leylandii (G1) FELL. Reason: planted as a boundary hedge, not maintained and now too large for their environment, close to a boundary wall and outbuilding causing structural and light issues. Replacement proposed for green amenity and wildlife habitat and seeking advice as to best way to do this long term. Informative A: replacement planting for the over-grown Leylandii hedge is greatly welcomed and a predominantly native species boundary hedge is suggested such as: hazel, holly, hawthorn, dogwood, dog rose, guelder rose, spindle, Escallonia, Lonicera nitida, wild privet, Fuchsia magellanica, Japanese Holly (Ilex crenata), yew, blackthorn, berberis. Such a hedge can be re-cut and maintained at a reasonable height for the size of the garden, and restored even after years of neglect, unlike leylandii. Informative B: the replacement trees and hedge are greatly appreciated for urban greening for rear amenity, climate change mitigation, wildlife habitats, edible landscape, to reduce air pollution and storm water run-off, and benefit health and wellbeing.
