Two beech trees (T1 and T2) on this property are hosts to Ganoderma bracket fungi. T1; Beech tree - Removal down to ground level. T2; Beech tree - Removal down to ground level. T1, is very close to the entrance to the drive. This tree has 3 easily visible brackets (see photos attached), one of these brackets is especially large and has been present on the tree for quite some time, but some new smaller brackets are appearing, suggesting that the extent of decay has spread throughout the base of the tree. As well as these new brackets, there is some severe bulging and deformity at the base as the tree tries to put more meat on to compensate for the Internal decay. I would suspect this tree to be hollow and pose a severe risk of failure. Owing to the fact this tree is very large and in close proximity to the dwelling, the drive where the resident's cars are parked daily beneath, and the tree is also right next to a pedestrian footway and a road on a school route with several school busses travelling down it daily, I would recommend removal of this tree to be the most prudent to eliminate risk to life and property. Alternatively, some retrenchment pruning and close monitoring. The second beech tree, T2, has a very large bracket on a large limb about 15 feet up (see photos). Around this bracket, there is some clearly visible deadwood and decay. And above this bracket, there is lots of epicormic growth visible (see photos), suggesting that the tree has some serious internal stress, and this may be symptomatic of an imminent failure. Again, I would recommend the removal of this tree to be the most prudent to eliminate risk to life and property. Alternatively, some retrenchment pruning and close monitoring, This tree T2 is slightly further set back from the house and driveway, so it doesn't pose as much of a risk to the homeowner, but like T1 is very close to the road and pedestrian footway and school route.
