Planning Decision

Decision
Refuse

Why it was refused

  1. That the proposed replacement shopfront is contrary to the provisions of Dumfries and Galloway Council Local Development Plan 2 Policy HE1, the associated supplementary guidance on the Historic Environment, National Planning Framework 4 Policy 7, Historic Environment Policy for Scotland, and Historic Environment Scotland's Managing Change in the Historic Environment guidance on Shopfronts, by reason that the increased frame thickness, altered proportions of the windows and doors within the shopfront, and the introduction of a side screen to the entrance to the retail unit, give the shopfront an unbalanced appearance that is disruptive to the symmetry of the building, to the detriment of the character, appearance and setting of this prominent Category C listed building.

From the council's decision notice.
