Tree Works - TPO - Refused
Case Officer
Ben Turner

Why it was refused

  1. The trees are prominent and highly visible from public vantage points in this location and make an important contribution to the visual amenities and character of the area. It is unclear exactly which branches are intended for pruning and there is currently sufficient clearance over the play equipment in this location.
  2. The proposed extent of reduction of lateral branches of T1 & T2 will be harmful to the shape, form, balance and appearance of the trees. Pruning of this nature will create large diameter pruning wounds and reduce branches to bare wood that will be unable to reshoot and regrow.
  3. Concerns regarding tree debris such as fallen leaves do not provide sufficient justification for potentially harmful tree work and the clearance of fallen leaves is part of reasonable routine maintenance.
  4. No technical evidence has been submitted to support any alleged concerns regarding play equipment and alternative solutions to potentially harmful tree work (such as relocating equipment away from the trees) does not appear to have been explored.
