I have today had an arborist out to inspect the mature ash tree in my rear garden as I had concerns about the appearance, stability and continual dropping of branches. I am saddened to report that he has confirmed heavy ash dieback infection. Currently at 40% of crown showing signs and symptoms. Ben Copson, Arborist has strongly recommended removal, or heavy pollard to monolith, the latter is my preferred route to preserve some habitat for the animals and insects. I have already planted two new apple trees in the garden, but propose to reduce to monolith and plant another tree. I am concerned that if I leave the tree, or simply reduce, it will be a continual concern due to children and pets on both sides of the garden, where the tree overhangs and the proximity to my home if the tree were to topple at some stage. I have an obligation to my insurers to ensure I take steps to protect the building, I understand that this approach to infected ash trees, or even removal has been taken in East Carlton Park and the surrounding area, so hopefully it is satisfactory.
