Why it was refused

  1. The proposed windows, by virtue of their design and modern uPVC materials, would introduce an unsympathetic form of development which would diminish the historic character of the building, failing to conserve and enhance the character and appearance of the building itself, the adjacent grade II listed building, or the Cockermouth Conservation Area, resulting in less than significant harm which is not outweighed by any public benefits. The proposal is therefore contrary to policies S4, S27, DM14 and DM15 of the Allerdale Local Plan Part 1 (2014) and the provisions of the National Planning Policy Framework 2024.
