Who decides, and how to have your say

Large electricity generating stations in Scotland (over 50 MW) are consented by the Scottish Ministers under section 36 of the Electricity Act 1989, not by the local council.

Anyone can make a representation to the Scottish Government's Energy Consents Unit while the application is being considered. The planning authority is consulted, and if it objects a public inquiry is held.
