Credentials

• CHAS Accredited

CHAS assesses contractors' health and safety management. It is mainly asked for by commercial and public sector clients, and shows the firm has written health and safety policies that have been checked.

• Constructionline

Constructionline is a pre-qualification register used by larger clients and public bodies to check suppliers' company details, insurance and health and safety before hiring them. It mostly matters for commercial and public sector work.

• FENSA Registered InstallerCheck the FENSA register

FENSA is a competent person scheme for replacement windows and doors. A FENSA installer can self-certify that the work meets the Building Regulations, and the certificate is registered with your local authority. Keep it safe: buyers' solicitors usually ask for it when you sell the house.

• FMB MemberCheck the FMB (Federation of Master Builders) register

The Federation of Master Builders is the largest trade association for small and medium-sized building firms in the UK. Members are vetted when they join and agree to a code of practice, and the FMB offers a route for resolving disputes between members and their customers.

Memberships can lapse, so check before work starts.
