Ash tree (Fraxinus excelsior) on the corner of Sankey Drive and Aspen Road. Doesn't come up on nomad as a council owned tree but after land registry search it has been determined that it is council owned land. Tree is suffering from ash dieback: has extensive dieback in crown (retrenchment), major deadwood and also also has some basal decay. At this stage of disease progression, the branches are also likely to be brittle and weak and at risk of snapping out. With its location over a footpath and next to a road, the target is quite high so we would like permission ASAP to remove and replace the tree due to its poor condition. We would have considered a monolith to maintain habitat value but the basal decay makes this seem like this would be insufficient to make the tree safe and we would be better to plant a new tree there. We obviously would not want to replant an ash but would consider planting an cherry or rowan in its place.
