Trees in a Conservation Area: T1 (Oak) - 40% crown reduction, remove branch hung up in canopy and fallen branch. Oak Tree, Eglingham Church Yard Tree Assessment and Recommendations Tree Assessment A visual inspection was undertaken of a semi-mature oak tree in the grounds of Eglingham Church Yard which dropped a large branch in the summer. Based on a visual inspection, the oak appears to be in relatively good health with minimal deadwood present in the canopy with healthy leaf cover at the time of visit. The branch drop may have been caused by Summer Branch Drop, possibly brought on by severe summer drought in combination with added weight from leaves; however past storm damage cannot be ruled out. Recommended Actions Cut up and remove the fallen branch which is lying between grave stones as shown in Figure 1(included in additional documents). Remove the branch that is hung up in the canopy which poses an immediate risk to members of the public and gravestones below. Undertake a 40% crown reduction with tree surgery to reduce the size and weight of the crown, full crown shown in Figure 2 (included in additional documents). During this reduction, any dead or damaged limbs should be assessed and removed. These actions will help to reduce risk of future fallen branches. Tree surgery is recommended as an effective means to cut and lower branches in small sections to the ground in a safe and controlled manner. This will enable the works to take place safely around existing gravestones and ensure the site is left in a safe and tidy condition.
