Notice of intent to carry out works to trees in a Conservation Area - There are six hazel trees, multi-stemmed with approximately thirty-six trunks in total, on the southern boundary of The Old Brewery. They have been neglected for more than twenty years, resulting in extensive ivy growth which has pushed the hazels to grow upwards. They are now around eight metres high, and spindly which makes them lean as they put on leaf and nut growth in the spring and summer. The ivy has mostly been severed at low level, and its dead trunks and branches removed from the hazels. There are lower level hazel shoots produced in 2022.The plan is to reduce the height of the hazels to around 2.5m during the dormant period this coming winter, then to remove the old trunks by rotation over a three-year period to encourage new stem growth. This programme will be varied as the result of each stage becomes apparent. The trees will then be maintained as a productive boundary hedge.
